Last Saturday evening, I came across an announcement in Shoes News about something called, “Big Sunday” – I could host a Lemonade Stand and raise money for a great cause, Shoes That Fit. I thought I should share the news with a blog, but my hubby beat me to it. Enjoy and if you’d like come join us at 2nd and Yale in Claremont Village – grab a few cups of lemonade or bring a pair of new shoes. Thank you in advance for all your support.
May 1st & 2nd, 2010 is Big Sunday. Their mission is to build community through community service. Our volunteers come from all kinds of neighborhoods, and work in all sorts of neighborhoods, too. The idea is that everyone has some way that they can help somebody else.
Each year, volunteer hosts – many of them children – set up lemonade stands across Southern California during Big Sunday Weekend and sell lemonade to benefit five local children’s charities.
This year, on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, Big Sunday Lemonade Stands will be set up at the end of driveways, in schools, in parks, at farmer’s markets, in malls and at other locations far and wide. My wife, 4 year old daughter and myself will be set up at 2nd & Yale in the heart of Claremont Village.
Our stand will be raising money and awareness for one of our favorite charities, Shoes That Fit. They are helping children in need in thousands of schools across America. Hundreds of thousands of new shoes and other items have been given out and that number is growing rapidly.
Accepting no government funding whatsoever, and with 100% of community donations going directly to school children through an impressive network of volunteer-run local grassroots chapters, Shoes That Fit is uniquely efficient and effective in its life-changing operations.
Most importantly, Shoes That Fit is helping kids improve their self-esteem and fit in at school by eliminating one of poverty’s most visible and debilitating marks.
Whatever else you are doing on Big Sunday Weekend, please make sure to stop by and have a cup or two or three of lemonade at one of the many locations.
